Fayetteville, NC movers know that moving is not an easy task. What can make the task even more difficult?

    One word, Weather!

At Two Men and a Truck of Fayetteville, we work hard to insure that all of our moves are not only on-time but that we keep your cargo safe. Whether it be the old kitchen table you inherited to the life size Cam Newton cut out you just purchased. Here are some tips on moving in the winter.

Moving Trucks must be driven with more care than a car especially in frosty or icy conditions. Not only for the stability of the vehicle, but also the stability of the items inside. You should also make sure your vehicle is maintained and ready for the winter months. Our trucks are regularly maintained to insure they are in prime shape for all weather conditions.

Stay on top of weather changes. We nor you want to be caught in the middle of a busy road like Skibo during a huge snowstorm, we attempt to make the moves when the conditions are optimal, although we have been known to brave the weather to make move happen on time!

Always carry a shovel to help dig you out of murky situations, sun as snow drifts. Its also important to carry an ice removal tool. In the most dire moments, we have found that a CD case will work as well but you risk damaging it. Having the right tools can prevent mishaps.

Whether it is Fayetteville’s award-winning moving company, Two Men and a Truck, moving a huge haul or you and your friends carrying a smaller load, the last thing you want is damaged carpets due to wet or muddy feet. Cover those floors and carpets with plastic or boxes to keep them from getting ruined.

Often forgotten in a move are plants and how to car for them in a move. On one hand, you don’t want them spilling out, but on the other you don’t want them dying. The best way is to keep plants in the passenger area of the vehicle or punch holes in plastic bags to continue providing them with air.

Nobody likes moving, especially in the cold winter weather that is ahead. Remember, we are always here to help make your move as easy as possible. From customer service to the time your items are in your new home, Two Men and a Truck will be right there.

Moving can take a lot out of you. With all the military, someone is always moving in fayetteville, NC. With these tips and a Free Estimate from Two Men and a Truck, your moving experience can be improved greatly!

    1. Get rid of your extra clutter rather than moving it with you. You could have a yard sale, use craigslist or give it to friends. The key is if you don’t need it at the new place, don’t take it with you.

    2. When packing, you should clearly label your boxes prior to packing. Not just by room, you can map out each room and be even more specific about your packing. use a numbering or color system to increase your organization. The number one waste of time when moving is trying to remember where stuff goes. By having a plan, you will come be one step ahead when you move into your new place.

    3. Keep a master list of what you have in each box. If you get in late moving and need that one item that night, you already know where it is. For example, you know you aren’t going to want to unpack everything the next morning without a cup of coffee, now you will know exactly where your coffee pot is!

    4. Label your essentials separate, use a special color ink or tape to make sure you can get to your daily items like bathroom or kitchen supplies.

Prior to packing make sure you have all your moving supplies. Two Men and a Truck can help with that, we have a large supply of packing paper, moving boxes, bubble wrap and rolls of quality tape. For more information, contact us and don’t forget to get your free quote!

Use packing as a time to clean out some of your belongings and donate to charity, have a yard sale, or head to a recycling center.

Keep each box to a 50 lbs. max or below 30 lbs whenever possible. Moving heavier boxes could cause you injury and are more likely to burst their tape or seams during the move.

Make sure to leave enough time to pack your belongings. It usually takes about about a month to pack a whole household. Make a calendar of what needs to be done & do your best to stick by it

While it’s not required it is nice if you have water on hand for your movers. In the heat/humidity of summer/fall it is much appreciated and makes for a happy crew

Wrap a piece of tape around wires, matching the ends to create a “flag” area to write on. Lable the wire what it is like, “TV to DVD” or “DVD power cord”

Use a digital or cell phone camera to take pictures of how wiring (television/DVD, speaker system) is hooked up. Be sure to use plenty of light and careful focus so the pictures will be clear. Print each picture and put it in the top of the box holding the item. This will make hooking up the items in your new place much easier.

When taking apart items to be moved, such as tables, securely tape screws and other small parts to the underside of the item. You’ll always know where to look and save time putting things back together.

Pack an “open me first box” with your essentials you’ll need right after the move. Label it clearly and have it easily accessible among other boxes. With your essentials handy, you can relax as you unpack instead of frantically searching for a must-have item.

Don’t forget the essentials…Make sure every member of the family packed an essentials box for themselves. For kids and teens this should include their favorite things, whether its music, games, books, journals or pictures, encourage them to pack everything together so that all the things that are meaningful for them can be unpacked first.

Packing Supplies and how they are best used.
Two Men and a Truck, your Fayetteville, NC Movers use these products when we pack up and want our customers to know how to use them when they are packing their own items.

    • Packing paper/plain newsprint – used to wrap everyday items to prevent scratching; when crunched up it can be used as cushioning
    • Tissue paper – softer than newsprint, used for wrapping very delicate items; also provides cushioning and fills in small spaces when packing fragile figurines and china
    • Bubble wrap – plastic packing material made up of hundreds of tiny “air cushions” or bubbles used to over-wrap small, delicate items after they are wrapped in tissue; also helpful when wrapping larger fragile items such as lamps and pictures
    • Pink anti-static bubble wrap – used to wrap electronics including stereos and computers. It is similar to traditional bubble wrap but does not cause static electricity. If traditional bubble wrap is used to pack these items, a static electric charge could be created, damaging the item.
    • Duck® tape/Sealing tape – plastic tape, 1.5 inches (3.81 cm) to 2 inches (5.08 cm) wide; best for packing, test to see if it ruins finish before taping up drawers and canisters
    • Permanent marker – used to label boxes with contents and destination in new location; mark boxes “fragile” and “this side up” when appropriate
    • Resealable plastic bags – used for nuts and bolts as you disassemble items, tape bag to disassembled item

    Tips on collecting packing supplies
Beware of used boxes – People sometimes try to pack their belongings in used boxes to save money. Beware. Produce boxes often become weakened from the moisture of transportation or product spoilage. Additionally, insects often nest in used boxes.

Use clear Duck® packing tape only– Make sure to seal your boxes with packing tape. Duct tape doesn’t adhere well to corrugated cardboard. Boxes put together with duct tape will fall apart.

Carolyn – L – Very pleased Was not sure if we really needed to hire a moving company for our move. We have always rented a truck from the national chains and moved ourselves. But I am so glad that I contacted Two Men and a Truck! It was so easy to ask for an estimate online and also received a phone call from Vonita. She helped walk me through the time estimate for the move and even asked if we were “military” to give us a discount! Vonita is so helpful and courteous. On the day of the move, I was happy to see the truck arrive when scheduled. My team of movers was Reggie, Charles, and Jeff. They were friendly and professional. They took great care to not damage any items, as well as to protect the apartment that we were leaving from potential damage. They were so polite during the process to get onto Fort Bragg and Pope AFB – they had to go through 2 gates. Thanks guys! Will defintely recommed Two Men and a Truck to anyone who is moving! (from Google Reviews)

Angela – We had an excellent experience with Two Men and a Truck. I booked them over the phone, received an estimate and received helpful information about moving day. On the day of the move Randy and Demetrius showed up on time and ready for work. They made a great team. They were professional, friendly, respectful and fast. My husband and I were both very happy that we made the decision to call Two Men and a Truck. (from Insider Pages)

Mira – Absolutely the best moving experience I’ve ever had! This was a very emotionally difficult move for me because I was packing up my father’s condo and moving him into a nursing home. The movers couldn’t have been kinder, more helpful, or more professional. They were friendly, up-beat, and simply OUTSTANDING in every way. They were nothing short of angels :-) I’m a fan of Two-Men-and-a-Truck for life.
